PROJECT DESCRIPTION AIT
was chosen as the Prime Contractor/Integrator for the 787 Final
Assembly and Body Join in Everett, Washington. The two automated
assembly systems arecapable of conducting the section 41 Forward
Fuselage, section 12 Left and Right Wings, and section 47/48 AFT
Fuselage joins to the mid-fuselage. The automated positioning system is
comprised of 14 positioners mounted to transportation structures. These
transportation structures move individually and are locked together and
indexed to the ?ûoor to create a base for stable operation. Major
subassemblies are body positioners (FWD and AFT) accompanied by Wing
positioners (Left and Right). These split further for transportation
into left- and right-hand minor subassemblies, and installation into
the join tool. |

rolled under the aircraft dollies after it is brought into the factory
and subsequently rolled out of the way
