With over 90 systems currently installed worldwide, AIT has the technical and management background necessary to implement any aerospace turnkey automation program.
Recent advances in machine design permit the use of smaller, more portable drilling systems. These smaller tools allow for lean manufacturing techniques to be incorporated into the build process. These drilling systems require less floor space, provide greater flexibility, and, in many cases, cost less than larger, fixed machine tools.

AIT has developed and implemented mobile numerically controlled drilling machines known as NCDJs. These machines are smaller and more flexible than their fixed tooling counterparts.

AIT recently delivered to The Boeing Company a turnkey automated drilling system for the F/A-18 E/F Outer Wing Assembly. The system automatically drills, countersinks, and reams holes in multiple stacks of material consisting of carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium in various combinations of material and thickness.
